This study has been made fort he purpose of compiling folk expressions in language boks and travelbooks of authors who come to see Ottoman Empire in the 19thcentury. Fort hisaim, the study has been made on names of tools, names of persons, names of animals, names of foods, names of fruits and vegetables, names of flora, respect expressions, addressing types, prays and curses, proverbs and idiomsbel on gingto folk literature in these works. While doing this study, eventinve stigation which is sub-step of descriptive method and historical method have been benefitted. As a
priority, resources which will be benefitted for the study, that is, compiles of language boks and travel boks have been studied. Then, determining the names and expressions discussed aboverelated to investigationareas has been made and it has been translated in
toTurkish. These names have been indexed by writing the numbers of pages next to the names. As a result of the study, it has been tried to find how foreigners see the every day lives of community; and by examining the names used in those days in that whether
the yâre used to do your not, it has been in vestigated to find any connection between these names and history, and effects to the flow of history. Additionally, by determining whether this study fills any gapavailablerelated to relevantfield, it has been tried tocreate a new field of study.
